Visitors to Dekker-attended events over the years have received stuffed Dekker TRAKKER lions and Dekker iPursuit tigers, and those stuffed animals have often accompanied their new owners on adventures around the United States and the world.
Recently, Kathleen Volandt, founder of Auroros, Inc., traveled to Rwanda with international author, activist, and Rwandan genocide survivor Immaculée Ilibagiza, and the iPursuit tiger went along, too. Kathleen took her tiger with her to Volcanoes National Park, where they interacted with gorillas in the same mountain location where Dian Fossey (American zoologist and author of Gorillas in the Mist) built the camp where she studied gorillas for 18 years.
Reportedly, the tiger and the gorillas got along well.
Volcanoes National Park was the first national park ever created in Africa, and its dense rainforest is best known for being home to pockets of mountain gorillas. Other animals that live in the park include the golden monkey, the buffalo, the spotted hyena, and a few elephants. The park lies in northwest Rwanda, and borders Congo and Uganda. In 1967, American naturalist Dian Fossey arrived at Volcanoes National Park and created the Karisoke Research Centre, where she worked studying mountain gorillas until her death in 1985. Fossey is often credited as having saved the gorilla from extinction by alerting the international community to the danger posed to them by rampant poaching.
Auroros, Inc. provides staffing and recruiting services, consulting services, and IT products to private companies and federal agencies, including the Department of Defense. Founded in 2002, the company is a premier partner of Dekker, Ltd.
